Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut to Celebrate Excellence in Utility Construction at Awards Gala

March 28, 2025 – Avon, Conn. – The Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut (UCAC) will present thirteen industry awards on Thursday, April 24th, 2025, at Saint Clements Marina in Portland, Connecticut. The award winners include local construction companies, equipment suppliers, and legislators. The awards will be presented at the UCAC Industry Awards and Scholarship Dinner, which will bring the utility construction industry together to honor their achievements.

Award Recipients Include:

Ditchdigger of the Year: Vincent Genovesi, Genovesi Construction (Tolland, CT)
Associate of the Year: Mike Masiarz, Barry Equipment (South Windsor, CT)
NUCA Participation: Victor Serrambana, Jr., VMS Construction (Vernon, CT)
Safety Award: Stu Bennett, Mizzy Construction (Plainville, CT)
Hero Award: Savy & Sons (Amston, CT)
Best Place to Work: Viking Construction (Bridgeport, CT)
Advocacy Awards: Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) and Representative Jill Barry (D-31)
Rookie of the Year: Peter Ellef, Talcott View Development (East Granby, CT)
Lifetime Achievement: Michael Mains, Talcott View Development (East Granby, CT)
Jobs of Distinction: Orchard Street – CJ Fucci (New Haven, CT), and Durham Street – VMS Construction (Vernon, CT)
Distinguished Career: John Vasel III, JVIII Construction (Rocky Hill, CT)

The UCAC Awards & Recognition Committee developed the Awards Program to shine a spotlight on professionals and companies in the utility construction industry who are excelling, making a difference, and setting an example.

UCAC President, David Stavens of Barber Utilities, explains, “Utility construction is critical to the infrastructure of our communities, and these awards help to underscore the amazing people, work and contributions of professionals in our industry.”

Nominations were solicited across the construction community in Connecticut, with members of the Awards & Recognition Committee and the UCAC Executive Committee making the final selections.  Honorees will be presented with awards and will be featured in upcoming blog posts on the UCAC website.
