Stu Bennett, Mizzy Construction Receives 2025 UCAC Safety Award

The UCAC Safety Award is given to a company or individual who is making a difference in the industry through their safety programs. Stu Bennett, Safety Manager at Mizzy Construction, was chosen to receive the 2025 UCAC Safety Award. 

Stu Bennett served in Vietnam, and joined the Special Forces. After a parachute accident at Ft. Devons, he got his CT Blasting License and used his savings to study chemistry at UCONN, and then Construction Management at Central Connecticut State University. From there, Stu continued his education and became authorized to instruct in all areas of American Mining: underground, coal, metal and non-metal. Stu provided training and certificates to over 20,000 trainees.

He also worked for excavating contractors since age 16, and started  Bennett Construction, Inc. in 1982. After he broke his back in 1982, he read OSHA 1926 cover to cover while recuperating. Stu said that this accident completely changed his productivity mindset to a safety mindset. He got his OSHA credentials and brought OSHA training to CCSU. 

He began working for Mizzy Construction as Safety and Loss Control Manager in 2010, where he developed extensive training programs for all employees.
